Can You Build a Successful Real Estate Business Without Buying Leads? I Joined The BA Podcast to Talk About It

by Shawna Martinez

I recently had the privilege of joining Kyle Bickham and Taylor Bookman on The BA Podcast, and I got to be their first Realtor guest.

The conversation centered around something I've become pretty passionate about:

You do not have to build a successful real estate business by constantly paying for your next lead.

We talked about how I've built my real estate business without relying on paid leads, the role relationships and referrals have played in my growth, how I've used social media to create opportunities, and what agents and entrepreneurs should be thinking about as AI continues changing the way we do business.

Building a Real Estate Business With Zero Paid Leads

There's a pretty big industry built around selling real estate agents leads.

That has never been the foundation of my business.

Instead, I've focused heavily on relationships, past clients, referrals, my sphere of influence, other agents, community involvement, consistent follow-up, and creating a personal brand people actually remember.

On the podcast, Kyle and Taylor asked me about how that translated into becoming a high-producing Texas real estate agent and what I would tell someone trying to build a business today.

And there were definitely some opinions. Shocking, I know.

Then We Got Into AI

This was probably one of my favorite parts of the conversation.

Is AI going to replace Realtors and other professionals?

My answer is a little different.

I think the bigger threat is the person in your industry who figures out how to use AI better than you do.

AI is already changing how we create content, market businesses, communicate, research, train, build systems, and operate.

Ignoring it isn't going to make it disappear.

We got into what that means for real estate agents, entrepreneurs, and business owners and why I think learning to use these tools is quickly becoming a competitive advantage.

We Also Talked About Social Media

Social media has given entrepreneurs something previous generations of business owners would have paid a fortune to have:

The ability to reach thousands of people for basically zero dollars.

But having access to an audience and knowing what to do with it are two completely different things.

We talked about how I've approached social media, why personal branding matters, and why I believe agents need to give people a reason to know them beyond another "Just Listed" graphic.

There is a lot more to this conversation than I can fit into a blog without completely defeating the purpose of telling you to watch the podcast. đŸ˜‚
